Find answers to common questions about our microgreens, ordering, and more.
Microgreens are young, edible seedlings harvested just after their first cotyledons (small leaves) appear. They are known for their concentrated nutrient content. Some of them - like broccoli - have up to 40 times more nutrients than their fully grown vegetables.
Rækta Microfarm is located by the harbor in Akureyri, Kaldbaksgata 2, Iceland.
Absolutely. Kids love them, and it's fun to let them snip the greens straight from the tray before adding them to their dishes.
We only use GMO-free seeds, and about 90% are certified organic. We never use pesticides — our greens are as natural and clean as they come.
When kept alive in their trays with the right care (light watering and between 18-23 degrees temperature), microgreens stay fresh for at least a week. Some varieties are more delicate, while others can last even longer.
There's no need to wash them since we don't spray chemicals of any kind. If you prefer, simply rinse them under cold water right before serving.
They're incredibly versatile — use them to brighten up fish, meat, salads, sandwiches, soups, omelets, pastas, smoothies, and even desserts.
We don't recommend freezing, as it changes their delicate texture and fresh flavor.

Best is to store them at room temperature unless you have a veggie cooler (7-10℃). Please do not keep "alive" Basil in the cooler! Our microgreens are sold "alive" in reusable trays and can be kept in the tray and cutted just when needed. If you prefer to cut them and have them ready before service, keep them in a closed container with a paper towel that would absorb excess moisture.
